History
In September 1993 the Mount Olivet Christian Academy open it doors with its
first class of kindergarten students. When Dr. Charles E. Booth assumed his
responsibilities as Pastor of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in 1978, he had the
vision of an elementary school. He kept that vision veiled for several years and
when the vision became public, his congregation accepted it.
A tremendous amount of credit must be given to the members who labored for so
long exploring, gathering information, and praying that a Christian Academy of
excellence might be put together. What was developed and implemented as The
Mount Olivet Christian Academy is the fruit of the labor of the Mount Olivet
Christian Academy Task Force.
The biblical and theological premise upon which our Academy is founded should
never be forgotten. It is the intent of the Mount Olivet Christian Academy to
develop an elementary school with a three-pronged program:
1) Excellence in academics
2) An understanding of the scriptures as they relate to value formation and a
Christian lifestyle; and
3) An understanding of the rich multi-cultural heritage resident in America
and how that rich heritage is reflected in the African-American experience
Under the leadership of Dr. Gloria S. Friend, the administrator and first
instructor, The Mount Olivet Christian Academy received its first state charter
in May 1997 for grades K-4. In February 1999, the Academy received its second
charter for grades K-6.
