Mr. Quincy Reed
Why Teach?
Hello, my name is Quincy Reed and I have been with the Academy for six years. Teaching is not something I see as merely a job. The Academy is not just a place of employment. I view my position as a chance to minister to children and their families. I thank God for sending me here to the Academy and using me as a vehicle to meet the needs of His people. Many families have been affected by the spiritual and academic growth of their children as they attend the Academy. I feel honored that He has led me to be a part of the Academy as they have been blessed by this ministry.
The Academy
The fifth grade is a crucial point in a child's academic career. It's a time of physical, and intellectual growth. This is the age where students are expected to mature and to show actions of responsibility. I want each of my students to know that with hard work and perseverance, they can accomplish the goals that are set for them as it is stated in the mission statement of the Academy. The Academy allows us to strengthen each child focusing on his/her individual gifts and talents. It allows us to teach the word of God, in its entirety. It allows us to integrate the word of God into all academia of math, science, social studies, and language arts.
My Classroom
In teaching my students, I assess the initial academic level of each student. This allows me to formulate my lessons in such a way that will challenge the student to grow, without being overwhelming. I meet with the students to create attainable goals as they meet the standard objectives. With the small classroom sizes at GSF, I am able to meet the needs of each individual student. I adapt my teaching style to include various learning styles of each student. I understand at times that students can feel frustrated or defeated when facing difficulty in different subject areas. I remind them that they are created in God's image, fearfully and wonderfully, and that He has designed their mind to think critically and to be challenged. I remind them that they can overcome the challenges they face because "they can do all things through Christ whom strengthens them". In order to help them achieve, I make myself available during the free periods to administer additional help.
I am a teacher who firmly believes in discipline. I want students to know that they will be held accountable according to the school and classroom expectations. Students must understand that they are responsible for their actions. I explain to them how we are expected to follow the law of God, and the laws of the land. If not, there are real penalties and real consequences. I teach them that God holds us accountable to what we are taught. Once He reveals something to us, He expects us to implement that newfound truth. Therefore, when I teach a social or academic skill, I expect the students to use that skill.
I teach that God rewards our Obedience to Him. I teach that God is trying to help them to understand these principals through the relationship that they have with their parents, teachers, and other authority figures. By understanding the lifestyle of obedience, they will know how to develop their personal relationship with Christ Himself. I let them know we all make mistakes, and God is forgiving as well as He is just. However, He has given them the ability to think before acting. I tell them, "try not to make the mistakes that will cost you everything". I feel these seeds are sown into the students so they may bare good fruit long after they leave the Academy. I feel if they develop a close relationship with God now, as they grow older they will not stray but grow closer to Him. This will help them to stay in the will of God rather than fall into traps of destruction the enemy has for them.
Parents
It is important that parents enter into a partnership when it comes to educating their child. I highly stress to parents how crucial it is for them to re-enforce the same principles at home that we implement in school. It is important that the parents work with their children on their academic subjects each night to help them to practice the skills that are taught. Children need to see unification between the parents and the school. God is not the author of confusion, and we do not promote disunity at the Academy.
What I Want Students To Remember
I want my students to remember that I love and care about them. I want them to remember me as a man of God who loves to worship God with all of his heart, mind, and strength. I want them to remember that God loves them and has great plans for their lives. I want them all to succeed in the plans that God has for their lives. I want them to take advantage of every educational opportunity He opens for them in order to fulfill that plan.
God Has Great Plans For You!
